Commerce Bancshares, Inc. announced record earnings of $2.89 per share in 2002 compared to $2.60 per share in 2001, an increase of 11%. Total earnings for 2002 amounted to $199.5 million, an increase of 10% compared to $182.0 million earned in 2001. For the year, the return on assets was 1.61%, while the return on realized equity totaled 16%. The efficiency ratio was 57.9%.
